Please Explain Escalation Levels in Alerts?

Hi Guys,

Bit confused regarding escalation levels in alerts. Since in one article it states:When the alert is reset, escalation actions are halted. (Define the conditions that must exist to reset an alert - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support ) and another article states: After an alert is acknowledged, alert actions in higher escalation levels are halted and the time it was acknowledged and the account that acknowledged it is recorded. You can also add notes that other users can read. (Purposes of acknowledging alerts in Orion - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support )

Please let us know how escalations works? and meaning of above statements in both articles?
