Solarwinds Orion Install/Migration question

We want to install SW Orion 2020.2.1 (with NPM,NCM,SAM) on new servers, and SQL 2016 on a new server. We then want to backup/restore from the existing SQL 2014 server to the new SQL 2016 server.

Will that copy to the new SW all the existing Component monitors, Application monitors, Alerts, Actions, NPM nodes, groups, and NCM configs? Basically, the thousands of things we don't want to recreate manually?

The background is that we inherited these old products:
Orion Platform 2017.3.2 SP2
SAM 6.4.0
NPM 12.2
NCM 7.7
These are on 8 servers, and a dedicated SQL 2014 server.

We want our own fresh install of the latest SW Orion, but keep the old data, and don't want to recreate all the monitors, alerts, nodes, etc.

We're okay if we don't copy over old files and folders, so we're not looking for a 100% migration.

Thanks for your help!!!

  • Additionally, ensure you are using the product upgrade advisor and inputting your current server and Orion module versions in in case any additional steps are needed. This is available to you in your customer portal. This will help ensure a smooth transition.
