November Mission 2023 - Day 5 Poll

IF YOU TAKE THIS POLL BEFORE FRIDAY OCTOBER 6TH OR FROM THE COMMAND CENTER VS. THE MISSION, YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE MISSION CREDIT

  • In this industry we are constantly given more responsibilities and pressed to reduce costs and I wonder where the diminishing returns happen in EVERY business where the staff is so "busy" that things are falling apart.

  • It depends on the mutlitple factors. Sometimes teams support or database server resources, etc. After migrating to RDS, we had faced IOPS problems.

  • There is no "db team" within our organization.  There are several who are good with COTS software products which have been purchased with vendor "support." N o one has a full grasp on the databases which are here in this sprawled-out landscape.  Just getting a real handle on our landscape's contents.

  • Learning SQL Sentry!   I have it up and running rather well, I am having authentication issues (annoying SMTP alerts) - it is an amazing tool, developing with our soon to be database administrator, or database administrator in training.   Because I was quite familiar with DPA, I have made a smooth transition, but could use some one-on-one help!   Finding time right now is a big issue, I am upgrading my infrastructure, so we are using SQL Sentry to catch the machine pushing wait times up in our environment.   I have it on a big display, so I can tell in a glimpse if someone is doing inappropriate queries against our data.    DPA got us to the ... its no longer the network, it is a user/computer causing the issues.   SQL Sentry will also assist in the scheduling of reports, tasks, and jobs, the calendar is going to be golden for our operation in the very near future.   Thanks, SolarWinds for adding such an amazing tool to the repertoire!
