SolarWinds User Group – London, 2023

For those new to SolarWinds or some of us long time veterans of the solutions, there’s no better way to learn than by following in the footsteps of others.  For myself, those “others” in question are other product specialists, the Head Geeks, the product management team, our user experience researchers, and you - the technology practitioners who can join us at a SolarWinds User Group.

Suffice it to say that I learn more from attendees of SWUGs and how they are leveraging the solution that I could ever learn on my own.  That’s something that’s true for everyone who shows up.  There are many great things about being part of a SolarWinds User Group (raffles, technical content, free food, etc.), but the absolute best part are the other attendees.

Who

From the SolarWinds front, I will be there, along with a plethora of other staff.  We’ll be bringing in executives from around the company, the Head Geeks to share their knowledge, user experience team members to host workshops and exercises, product management to share the current and future product plans, and solutions engineers to tackle your toughest technology challenges.

What

Full Stop: I realized I never mentioned exactly what a SolarWinds User Group is.  A SWUG, in the briefest of explanations, is the in-person, real-life, boisterous incarnation of the THWACK community.  You’ll be there in the room with everyone.  In a world where we are more and more disconnected, it’s amazing to reconnect with other professionals.

Two days of content with multiple tracks per day.  You’ll probably want to be a part of all of them, but that’s just not possible.  My recommendation?  Invite a colleague to register as well so they can be in the Database track while you are in the ITSM track.  Take a lesson from Philip II of Macedon: divide and concour.

Did I forget to mention?  It’s also 100% free to attend.

Where

As much as I love being in the heart of London it’s less than ideal for locals.  What is ideal is hosting an event at a strategic location accessible for as many people as possible.  With that in mind, we’ve selected the Sheraton Skyline Hotel near Heathrow.  It’s a literal 4-minute drive from the airport or a 2-minute walk from the Harlington Corner stop on the red line.

Additionally, the hotel has offered us a special rate for those out-of-town guests who will be attending the SWUG.  You can read more about that on the Travel Info page on the SWUG site.  If you can, I’d recommend you take the hotel up on this offer as you’ll be finding yourself having conversations long into the evening.

When

This year, the London SWUG will take place on April 19-20, 2023, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day with a networking reception with drinks and light fare at the conclusion of the first day.  Lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the day.

Why

I could wax philosophically about why a SolarWinds User Group is amazing, but others are happy to do it for me.

There is literally nothing I like more than being at a SolarWinds User Group – it’s the in-person version of THWACK and that makes my heart happy.  I’m proper chuffed we’ll all be in-person (did I use that right?).

How

Registration is easy and free.  Just hop on over to the SWUG’s registration page, fill out a small form, and your name badge and lanyard will be waiting for you when you arrive.  That’s it.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that tickets and hotel rooms are very limited and will be strictly capped.  Register now to guarantee your place.
