One Year Older and A lot Wiser

The date…June 2003. The event…the launch of a new website. The website…THWACK®.

What was once a simple product support community has grown, evolved, and blossomed into the place for IT pros to meet and interact. This month, nineteen years ago, the experiment called THWACK was born. And while the appearance of the platform, the way we interact with each other, and the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes have gone through countless changes, it all comes back to the cornerstone of our community: THWACK is the online community for IT pros by IT pros.

Whether you’re among some of the original members or if today is your first day joining us, welcome and thank you for being part of our community. You’re in great company and are part of an ever-growing group of over 180,000 IT pros where you can get your questions answered, learn new things about the software you use every day, and grow professionally. From new methodologies, new templates for monitoring your applications, a new dashboard, a script, or taking part in our monthly missions, there’s something here for everyone to improve your knowledge and career, all with a little help from your fellow THWACKsters.

THWACK is one of the worst-kept secrets in the monitoring space, but we’re still working on reaching more people. And while new members join daily, the numbers are not as important as our members. THWACK is an excellent example of quality over quantity. For those of us on the community team, we love seeing and hearing about all the interactions. No matter if the community was made up of 180 members, not 180,000, and they helped each other do their jobs more efficiently, it would still classify THWACK as a success.

We’re hundreds of thousands strong with the shared goal of doing better with and by others. THWACK is a living, breathing thing. Over the past years, we’ve seen it evolve to include programs like THWACK Livecasts, our annual THWACKcamp events, and the SolarWinds User Group (SWUG). To say THWACK is only a “support website” is grossly inaccurate. All this being said, on behalf of the community team and the entire SolarWinds staff, I’d like to say thank you for being here. Thank you for contributing to our community with your knowledge and time in helping those around you.

Now, take a deep breath and join us in blowing out these 19 candles on the THWACK birthday cake! Hopefully, none of them are trick candles, and they’ll all go out the first time.
