THWACK Livecast Series: Orion Platform Automation Made Easy

Join us for two (1-hour) sessions as we detail how you can leverage the SolarWinds® Orion® Platform at various stages in your project to create shortcuts, deliver maintainable solutions, and cut down on your workload overall, allowing you to free up your time for the things that matter.

Session One – November 11, 10 a.m. CT

Let the Orion Platform Do the Heavy Lifting

Presented by: Kevin M. Sparenberg (), Leon Adato (), and Chrystal Taylor ()

Whether you know it or not, the Orion Platform has some easy-to-use automation built right in. Automatically adding discovered devices, assigning custom properties, taking the toil out of building groups, and a plethora of other ways you can save precious time and reduce errors.

After this session, you’ll be able to:

  • Better automate using discovery templates with some best practices
  • Automate Custom Property assignment
  • Leverage Dynamic Groups to do work for you
  • Automatically assign Application Templates
  • Build pre-programmed remediation actions for recovery

Session Two – December 9, 10 a.m. CT

Using the Orion API for Fun and Profit

Presented by: Kevin M. Sparenberg (), Leon Adato (), and Chrystal Taylor ()

Continuing the discussion from the previous THWACK Livecast about letting the Orion Platform products automate your work, we’ll be stepping away from the web console and start digging into the SolarWinds Orion Application Programming Interface (API). The power of the Orion API is in its flexibility. If you want to unmanage or mute devices to coincide with your change management windows, or do bulk actions on devices, or even add devices to monitoring from nothing more than an IP address, it can be done with the API. Fear not: the presenters will goi through step-by-step with some examples and answer questions live.

After this session, you’ll be able to:

  • Have a basic understanding of the API and how it works
  • Know how to create, read, update, and delete elements
  • Use the SWQL Studio tool to retrieve data
  • Configure your desktop for scripting
  • Work from community examples of automation
  • Begin the discussions for integrating with automation engines
