relatively tidy

How have you configured that Status rollup mode for the group? Edit the group and open advanced to find the status rollup. Leaving it on "Show best status" will keep it green much more often. But Show Worst is the complete opposite
-
I really good place to start is the new customer success site at https://support.solarwinds.com/Success_Center It's a mine of official docs and training etc

uploaded - SolarwindsDiagnostics 20171027 Main - from MCAM

There is an snmp agent for eDirectory - check out this link The other choice may be NetIQ XDASv2 which I think is built into eDir 8.8SP8. It will use syslog if required which may help depending on your environment. We are also looking at getting better data out of eDir and am just starting down that road

Copy the existing "Nodes Not Up" from the standard Home screen, then edit it and add a filter to only show your access points So a filter like Vendor = 'Meraki' and Status >1
-
I've got snmp working etc, but Meraki is deliberately obtuse and doesn't encourage the use of any interface but their own. We also looked at using their switches and other networking gear but decided against it for that reason. Basically the only way to manage Meraki gear is through their interface. Meraki has no…

Definitely would want to get another ThwackPack - these things are awesome. Mine is also looking "over loved" from daily use
-
with the group icons you can specify the type of status roll up. Check out this link Managing the Display of Group Status

Not strictly answering your question....... but it could be that a multi prong approach would help. We use other tools that are capable of monitoring application execution on workstations and preventing the app from running on unauthorized workstations. The other parts are keeping the port closed on devices that use SSH…

wow - this is waaay more than I was expecting Just to say - I love Solarwinds because of stuff like this. These changes are a laundry list of customer feature requests
-
This was a good prompt to check to see where I was, I don't often land at the home page to see where I am. But fully agree with the others about helping out with UX and offering help where possible. This company makes it easy to supply feedback and is constantly improving based on customer suggestions and input - that is…
-
My theory is this..... We come here to ask questions and exchange ideas. "Thwack" is the collective sounds of open palms slapping foreheads when we all say "of course, why didn't I think of that!"
-
a great place for requests like that would be Virtualization Manager Feature Requests Then other folks can vote your suggestion up. You can count on my vote
-
I had exactly the same question until I found this answer Just starting to look at doing the same thing to monitor based rest services. How have you been getting on?
-
how about run it backwards? Instead of looking for something specific, capture the age of the files in a script (bash here) and return the file age as a variable you can use it in the monitor. That way you can get a warning as it hits 30 and an alert when it breaks 40. Even better, feed it back so the alert triggers an…

I am new to Solarwinds, but it looks like the default configuration of the most of the canned alerts in Advanced Alert Manager is global in nature and the default trigger action is to write to the event log. Would it not be possible to edit the "Alert me when an interface goes down" trigger condition to exclude…

Just having a know, reliable scheduler would be really nice. At least using cron is it would use the same syntax as a whole bunch of our servers. But getting the ability to properly schedule scripts etc, as adatole says - getting this more linux like really is a great step forward. As crontab is file based, having scripts…
-
First - Welcome to Thwack by the way As the others have already mentioned there are a couple of rules of thumb to help you estimate your monitor count. But is really does change depending on your monitoring needs. When we started with Solarwinds, I was in exactly the place you are now. Trying to figure out what we needed…
-
it almost sounds like the access list on the cisco device has lost the ip address of the solarwinds server or the access list still has the old community string associated with the solarwinds server. If access lists are being used the community string may need updating in both the community string and the access list in…

Open Solarwinds, go to Settings, select manage agent. Choose add agent and download from there.
-
it really does seem that even though we have a whole bunch of CPs, there will always be a reason to add more
-
You may be able to get similar information from the webserver side, but as Christoper says, if its more generic for given part of the network then you will need NTA to read the flow data.
-
are you still in need of input on this? - there are many applications that need some kind of log file monitoring
-
200K? That really is quite an achievement - congratulations and thanks for putting so much into this community
-
yep, got mine too. I'd completely forgotten about it. I saw the sender address and didn't remember ordering anything
-
we noticed this type of thing early on and instead of using alerts that rely on a single, specific condition, use multiple conditions. That gives you much more control over when alerts happen. We use combinations such as Down or Unavailable or Warning or Critical Makes life much easier and we get alerts when something goes…
-
exciting - this works well for some companies. Hope it applies here too
-
Maybe add a Custom Property to each node that gives the client name Then use the custom property in the alert to filter the alert. More filtering can be had with Alert Central as well
-
You can also monitor linux services with snmp if you have that enabled/allowed Depends if you're already using it to monitor other things or not.
