I liked today's question a lot. Some hunting around required. Those things often get forgotten about and yet are really useful, they deserve more use

indeed - its too easy to get sucked into the hype over cloud everything as though it is the cure for the common cold. Cloud storage for the purposes of providing web services to external customers is a great use case though.

sadly its only a personal responsibility issue for the driver. But in this case they aren't going after the driver, they're going after the deepest pockets and hoping it sticks.

GREAT post! So much said using few words. This is atimely post that really does match our new reality.

so looking forward to that linux agent

this is really needed - the only fix for short term spikes is to modify the alert. SAM has already proven how effective thresholds like "3 out of 5" or "2 consecutive" can be - NPM needs to catchup

not sure I agree with the answer today - more words != more correct oh well hasta la pasta

I like this description I used to describe myself as a specific generalist. Meaning that rather than being "master of none", there was a while bunch of "certified on u,v,w,x,y,z"

the biggest thing with SNMP is its huge support base. There are some replacements for some platforms and not for others. Without SNMP there is a wide ranging mish-mash of competing "replacements" Ubiquity has its price Is it slow - Yes Can it be unreliable - Sometimes Is it inefficient - Yes Do those three matter - not for…

I'm wondering how much of the admin support load still exists after migrating to Exchange Cloud? I'm assuming that in the end the client isn't any different, so any of the client caused/related issues will still be there, Not there yet, but also assuming there are a bunch of other issues that crop up.

We have a pair a large dogs. A Great Dane and a Mastiff. So we I'm sitting at my desk, the great dane's head is at the same height as mine. She will walk up to me while I'm in a video call and folks just see this long nose coming into view from the side. To try diffuse the interruption I try to remember I can use the old…

The pricing thing doesn't surprise me. Even the route you take will affect prices. Last year I bought a one year subscription on Ancestry - except I noticed that I could go to ancestry.co.uk and get the full subscription for 60% of the cost on ancestry.com. Guess which one I chose That article reminded me of the which is…

"Something you are" is always the kicker Its too easy to fall into the trap of choosing something about a person that can be duplicated by another. For instance, the Apple fingerprint scanner getting fooled by an elmers glue print within weeks of its launch

hints? .... hints? ..... We don't need no stinkin' hints

I love the advice to use CC for those of us sometimes in a noisy environment Hadn't thought about that - I've just been cranking the volume on my headphones!

Automation changes the rules of IT - again The IT skills of tomorrow are not those that would guarantee employment 5 years ago and automation tools are just another tool that changes our world. For entities over a certain size, unless they have unlimited staffing budgets, we have to do more with less. From my perspective,…

you still in need of responses?

Love question 7. At first the hint seemed like it could be a bad link. It is a perfectly fine link which gets you to the information and should pose no problems if you've already used Thwack before. If you're new to Thwack then its a learning experience - checkpoint met

this almost reminds me of a Danish word Hygge Which almost feels appropriate. Thank you to a recent episode of QI for making the connection for me.

It is so enabling starting with a security first strategy rather than struggling with a retrofit. Doesn't help all the legacy stuff of course......

they are definitely late to the game now and really have to offer something compelling to convince all the Palo Alto defectors to come back, especially after such a long period of not offering a competitive product.
-
indeed - lots of guesswork involved in this weeks
-
Sweet! Thank you

agreed - this was one of the best missions, introducing products and learning by doing. Onwards and upwards

the worst kind are those questions that start with "you work in computers don't you...." I friend gave me a "No I cannot fix your computer" T shirt just for those occasions
-
I prefer getting my manager to keep an eye on things. Never won one of these, maybe this week I'll be lucky - that Sonic Screwdriver remote looks awesome. May have to get one on the off chance I don't win it
