Biggest thing for us is VMWare NSX An awesome product that is going to change how we do everything networking, server builds, application dependencies etc etc The list is endless and the future possibilities staggering.

there are some things that suit being in being in a public cloud, but my enterprise data isn't one of them

Awesome prizes this month as well - maybe I won't have to keep saving for those Beats headphones......

yep - another baldie here!

+1 for this comment

We have a license for NTM which really needs some love as well. However for TV scale dashboards I rely on the stylized big green button approach As an 180 opposite to the space shuttle dashboard, how about.

Lots of linux, mostly Suse Patching with vendor based tools makes it somewhat easier, also adds central policy and installation services to make life easier

Well done guys! Welcome to the crazy club

thanks for the clarification! I have not figured out how these things work yet and it hasn't been making sense as the numbers assigned don't add up to the total

Just wait - some of the first posts on the new site will be Hey, when do my points get assigned
-
dang it - I was out Friday and missed the deadline for the last day - oh well

I'm also interested in the other direction with private clouds, using docker or other containerization etc, But public or private, we would still have servers instances that appear and disappear based on usage rules etc. Also software defined networking with micro segmentation. Our world is changing fast......

yep - this really is one of the best parts of Solarwinds product ownership.
-
not sure what the issues are with the questions - especially taken in context of the challenge - Solarwinds Web Helpdesk. Remember this is supposed to be a bit of fun, where we learn about products that we may not have used before. Along the way we might earn some points and maybe win a prize of some kind. Its just points,…

They are two completely different products that have different user markets. WHD is a relatively straightforward helpdesk or ticketing system with asset management SWSD is a full suite ITSM product with service catalog, CMDB etc that goes far beyond simple ticketing. It is designed for those folks who want the full service…

hopefully mine is to look beyond the tech - IT is the thing that helps, never the reason
-
we have NSX and really like what it can do for us. Migration to it is not a trivial thing, but the light at the end of the tunnel is burning brightly
-
Palo Alto has been doing this for years and has it pretty well sorted out, not had any issues with it.

Learning something new all the time, that is essential to staying fresh and interested. Something I heard which is really relevant now. If you are not learning something new every 6-12 months, you are going backwards compared to your peers - and your usefulness/relevance is reducing.

I decided to take the cattle vs pets one step further. Now we have chickens - even less in invested time than cattle and better for you than all that red meat
-
we have had one application that seems to have a logical design and seemingly works really well..... Until the number of workstations, users and applications etc grows, then the level of database access needed to drive simple changes grows exponentially. Performance issues galore

Only one of these people has appeared at an Olympic opening ceremony

looking at various products such as LEM, Splunk and Sentinel for this very reason. Correlating the logs across devices is vital.
