in some circumstances it could make sense - but would require NEW networks, not piggy backed onto a real data network. My biggest concern isn't the wiring or technology - it's that the network team becomes part of facilites and massively changes how building management is done. That is fine for green field sites, but…

yep - all of those tech oriented silos ten years ago. Who am I kidding? Sadly, most of those tech oriented silos are still clinging on to existance, desperately hanging onto the hope that the IS shop that doesn't understand its customers business need will become relevant again Hopefully then next ten years will bury them…

VM snapshots are your friend for patching

That is a common misconception about what a CAB does. Change control isn't about running everything through CAB on a two week schedule. Many changes can be Standard Changes which are just pre-approved changes which don't go through CAB. A standard change just lays out the SOP, trigger conditions, approval requirements etc…

Personally I count Thwack as a social network and am performing my as-hired duties when I use it. Both Facebook and even more so with LinkedIn have groups that are highly business related.

the sound at the end of the video was scary, all those little drones buzzing round and round. Imagine that when they're all armed - gulp

I took the same route as you and added more APs to my network, pretty easy with Unifi for sure. However, looking at your wifi heat map reminded me that I needed to place the walls more accurately on my map though, so I've just gone and removed all the old walls and added new accurately placed and sizes walls to get a…

It all depends on where your data is and how connected it all it. Will a multitude of connected systems it makes "sticking it in the cloud" mind numbingly complex. No point moving a server if all its data and interconnections are all on premise. Hence hybrid

this is so frustrating with embedded java or embedded linux, they all report net-snmp instead of the actual vendor. Its even worse when they upgrade or switch platform

When you're looking at any Identity Management though, knowing what you intend to use it for is really important before starting the onprem/SaS discussion. If you're using your IDM to connect to internal systems with some external federation then onprem is the way to go. IDM can be so much more than single signon and…

Darn, I still didn't win that fridge Well done to all those lucky folks who won though

I lurve this place just sayin'

the funny thing is that this isn't a technical issue - its entirely a management and process issue. So often techies tend to look for a technical solution, when the biggest problem is the one sat behind the desk in the corner office.

Loot Crate is the ultimate geek gift setup for sure and always fun.

This really should be standard for any node based orion product.

I love this idea. There are many, many instances where this would be helpful. Anything provides more information is a winner

all those Rob Boss selfies were so funny - "my favorite dead celebrity" Even funnier was Patrick's voice unconsciously changing to match Rob's At least I can now say, finally, that I have actually met Rob Boss "in character"

My favorite is getting a custom written app that over time eats all the the server resources to the point the server either dies or needs restarting. The development solution? Maybe find the coding issue and fix it? Nope. Have a sysadmin login out of hours to reboot the server every week or two. Easy for them because its a…

Darn it, got the dreaded red X for the 11th - curse my click happy fingers Should have spent more time reading the hint - oh well

See - I knew it was a good idea Thanks for pointing those out, that is a huge help. It would be great if the help doc linked to that page as well, that would make it nice and obvious for folks like me!

Very interesting - we have just added WPM to our growing list of Solarwinds products. We have also come to the conclusion that adding external location for running transactions is essentially required for our outside websites. Now looking at the logistics for setting up those external locations.

its all too easy to forget the ongoing expense of maintaining the capex funded widget and keeping it fed and watered. I don't think there will ever be only one way of doing things, the pendulum will swing back the other way at some point

Looking at the likes of Splunk, Sentinel and LEM currently, all three with different licensing schemes. Its feels like a combination of what features we want balanced against the licensing model which makes the most sense for us.

Best thing with these questions and answer format is that it stops it being too easy. You have to actually read the hint and think about it Much better

I've had the same deal for a number of missions - that's the way it falls. Sometimes you can, sometimes you can't

With the current mission covering ASA, feels like now is a good time for a quick BUMP!!
