if it doesn't exist as a script, its not worth doing properly

I love me some classic Larry Niven

my point is that those same users are covering the camera because they think it could be hacked - yet quite happily VPN to work or access HIPAA data, connect to their bank accounts etc etc It's just security theater

This is one of those features I thought (hoped?) would transfer over after the demise of Alert Central

Self bump

that is what I thought initially Now I realize its really about helping IT folks understand that business is the point of IT, not the other way around Once you understand that, thinking of what you do is a service that your business uses is much easier.

there are products out there now that deliberately send your users suspect emails of all types - then if any of them fall for the tricks the user will get sent to an educational page on what they should have done. Very cool idea Of course its a completely different story if the admin or security guy falls for it . . . . . .

automation just gets rid of the mundane so I can work on stuff that can't (currently) be automated. It also is waaaay more consistent

rather than a blanket everything on flash approach, which is mind numbingly expensive, we are taking the common tiered storage route and expanding into flash as it becomes less and less expensive.

Same as before guys If the link fails just start at the Monitoring Central blog where they all come from. Monitoring Central

Mine is much more recent Thank you Solarwinds for NETPATH, without which my vendors would have endless finger pointing Also to VMWare, IBM Storwize, and Amazon
-
at least the super nice installer makes that dramatically simpler than before

this is our pain point right now. As more and more of our environment is virtualized we are beginning to lose the kind of visibility we have been used to in the physical world. VMWare NSX is uncorking virtual networking at a staggering rate. We now have virtual switching, routing, firewalls, load balancers all with flow…

I feel your pain - but also see the other side. The biggest ongoing failing of modern IT - is to see things as IT issues and misunderstanding the needs of the business (and management) It isn't the job of management to understand IT issues, however, it is the job of IT to provide the business reason why these things are…

I like this series. technology without documentation is just firefighting

awesome challenge, great fun finding the information. Much more fun see if I knew it beforehand
-
darn it - missed one. No Slingbox for me then
-
definitely trust but verify Automating verified patches is a wonderful thing

that was a neat class, I enjoyed that. There really is no excuse for not being trained on Solarwinds products
-
very sad about missing the first one

I love these videos They have been properly distributed now

another bump to get something that gets me notifications on my phone Although I would suspect the number of required platforms is now back to two again.........

This is one of the products we want to look at. Got to finish implementing all the ones we do own first

today's question has an air of widespread truth to it. You want proof? Next time you're in an off-site meeting with others outside your organization, maybe at a training or other event. Now take a look at the laptops....... How many laptops have the little camera above the display covered with something? Maybe a bit of…

Please, please, please give us the ability to define groups of email addresses so we just choose a group to send to rather than manually updating hundreds of alerts every time a team changes

if you aren't used to the new map module this can seem a little confusing. But starting at what you know (Exchange), you can follow the trail through the node and on to the storage OR you can follow the trail to the node and look on the right side of the screen for the related items and see it there. Overall, its a great…

Adding the agent is a great step forward - can't wait to have that option and will certainly be able to leverage that! There is still a need for a "Lite" Additional Poller to really round out the none-local monitoring. Our use case is that we have a bunch of small branch offices with a few switches and a server or two -…

I have to admit to submitting my final four - then promptly forgot and voted against two of them on the first round Can't even rely on my own votes

One reflection on self driving cars... Within a year of real, level 4 (fully autonomous) self driving cars being relatively common, if you have an accident with one you will have to prove you're not at fault. The autonomous car will have all its logs and sensor data to back it up, so the chances of he said/she said are…
