By default, if you delete a VM from your environment, it will go "stale" after 24 hours (still show up in search results but be greyed out) and should be removed from Virtualization Manager search results and reports after 48 hours. When did you delete the VMs? Glad to hear the product is helping out! Jon

Good points Scott - there are a lot of products that do basic trending but that doesn't constitute Capacity Planning - understanding when you're going to run out and how many more VMs you can fit requires more than basic trending. Jon

Hi Chris, This is the "object detail view" and we have added the disk volume utilization info to this view in the next release. One thing you can try in the interim is if you click on the guest utilization alert and go into the configuration section of the alert, in the notification section, paste in the following, and…

5 minutes is the lowest you can set performance collection currently. Jon

You could create an alert off of the following out of the box search which looks for VM with recent config file (VMX) changes vm.config.dateModified:[now-7days TO *] This should return VMs with config changes in the last 7 days in this case. You could also use the "Compare" (DNA) feature to then drill in and see what…

So you want to take a specific VM and get a widget of IOPs per LUN? Do you have a one to one mapping between LUNs and datastores? i.e. would a widget showing a specific VM with IOPs per datastore work for you? Jon

You can try going to the query builder, if you type "nic" or similar it should give you the property below that you can search on, it should also tell you how many of each type you have. See screenshot below.

I will email you the link. Jon

Hi Tom, As you point out, the way to do that today is with time travel" in the map view, so you can put the datastore of interest "in context" and go back to the point in time to see what VMs were on that datastore. There is no way to generally query historical data currently. Do you find the map view lacking for this use…

Resource Pool membership is something you can search on and report on via trends, Excel, dashboards etc... The Showback dashboard has some good examples, with CPU and Memory broken out by Resource Pool for example. What exactly are you trying to show/report on? Jon

Annotations in vCenter are collected as name value pairs within Virtualization Manager. Is there a particular annotation whose absence you are trying to find or are you looking for no annotations present at all? Jon

The default is admin / admin You can find the documentation here http://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/vMan/docs/html/en-US/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm Jon

Are the 3 hosts managed by vCenter? If so, you don't need to add the hosts to data collection, you only need to add the vCenter as a data collection target. Jon
-
This is a message whether collection is succeeding or failing. This can be disabled in the admin UI (attaching screenshot) Jon

Hi Tom, The widget should persist. Can you open the shared link in a regular browser, or do you get the same message? Thanks Jon
-
ok - you may want to open a support case for this. Jon

Hi there, This was a problem with the memory overallocated calculation that has been fixed in our latest update (4.0.4) - if you download Virtualization Manager again, you should pick up the latest version which has fixed this issue. Thanks Jon

Hi there, I assume there is a separate vCenter instance in the recovery data center? One way is to not collect data from the back-up vCenter. One other way is to append the search queries to filter out the back-up VMs somehow. For example, if all of the back-up VMs are tiny (1-2kb) you could try a search query that filters…

Hi there, Are these RDMs? The Guest storage space utilization is not working for these VMs? You would need to configure two separate alerts for the critical and warning threshold currently. The default one is critical at 5% free space so you'd need to create another warning alert at 10%. Jon

You will need to enable WMI collections on Windows machines in order to collect the alignment data. Jon
-
Hi there, which report do you have a screenshot? Thanks Jon
-
Virtualization Manager doesn't use SNMP to collect data - it leverages the VMware APIs to collect data from vCenter or directly from ESX(i) hosts. Most of the important VMware data is only available via the VMware APIs today. Jon

Hi Tom, What version are you currently running? Anything significant happen at 3pm?!! (non Mayan related) Otherwise - please file a ticket with support. Thanks Jon
-
You have outlined one way to do this today. In general, you will need to create multiple copies of an alert (with different underlying searches for each different scope). One tweak that might help is that alerts and other content can be tagged, and the my content widget that shows the alerts can be filtered by tag. The…

The guest information in the compare (DNA) view comes from WMI, so this probably indicates that not WMI data is being collected from those particular VMs. Troubleshooting the WMI connectivity is probably a good first step. Jon

Hi there, We just released a major version of Virtualization Manager 4.0 (Hyper9). You can find some detail on what's new here http://www.solarwinds.com/products/virtualization-manager/whats-new-in-solarwinds-virtualization-manager.aspx We would like to support vSphere 5 in short order once it is available. Thanks Jon

No problem - removing alerts like other content, can be done from the content section (link at top of screen" similar to this post. Jon
