WPM Recorder: Problem Displaying a URL

I'm trying to use WPM recorded to go to a specific website login screen. I enter the URL, start the recorder and I get ---- nothing. Blank screen, no errors, nothing. This website login screen loads correctly in Edge, Chrome, Brave and Opera, but not the WPM recorder. I've tried using the recorded from different locations, and I've tried both the new 2023.1 recorder and the old deprecated recorder, no luck. Ideas, anyone? Thanks! -- Brent

  • Does that page have some sort of SSO/authentication thing happening immediately?

  • Yes, the URL does to a page requesting an ID and password.

  • The blank page could be caused by a rendering issue - you can check with usage dev tools if there were no issues in the console tab or navigation.

To open the dev tools for the web view component (the part that displays your web page) in WPM Recorder please use F12 key - it should open a separate window that will contain dev tools UI.

Additionally, you can verify if the issue is not caused by WPM Recorders UserAgent - again use DevTools to set a userAgent that looks more like Chrome UserAgent - There are several options you can use here or you can enter a customer UserAgent too. If the issue will be related to UserAgnet please contact SolarWinds support to provide you with instructions on how to set up a transaction with "custom" UserAgent.

  • Sometimes you'll get prompted with a window, the old recorder was easier for this, not clear what the difference is as such.

When not prompted, you want to open the ADaccountsettings exe (dont have the long name in front of me) from the WPM folder on the server running the transactions. That'll let you assign an AD account to the box, which can then be granted access to that service.

If that errors on opening you need to open a port on the windows firewall. Possibly 17774 or 5 or something like that, check the WPM ports page.

One of these should probably fix it

  • I've raised this issue with SolarWinds sales technical support and there is no obvious answer. Without being able to answer definitively, my tech rep guessed that this is a genuine bug. He also suggested that this could be resolved in the next WPM release. I'll update with any developments.

  • No luck with the account settings thing?

  • I've installed Orion version 2023.2 RC, downloaded and installed the WPM recorder for that version, and the problem still exists.

  • Hello Adam, I had pinned my hope on a WPM upgrade solving the problem but upgrading to 2023.2 RC gives no help. I can't find the application ADAccountSettings.exe in any WPM folder to try your solution. The only WPM folder I can find is

    C:\>dir wpm /s /ad
Volume in drive C has no label.
    Volume Serial Number is 765E-6C72

    Directory of C:\Users\SolarWindsInstaller\AppData\Local\Temp\swa\msi$0668\1\SolarWinds\Orion\ActiveDiagnostics\PlugIns

    04/09/2022 02:12 PM <DIR> WPM

    Suggestions?

    Thank you -- Brent

  • You want something like
    C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\SEUM\Player
    E:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\SEUM\Player
    etc

    In there you'll find

    SolarWinds.SEUM.AgentDomainConfigurationTool.exe

Add accounts that have permissions to the site you're using and arent going to cause issues for whatever other sites you're also using

If you get an error check windows firewall

90% odds you'll be good from there imo
