SWSD December 8th: Exciting Enhancements to Process Integrations
Unlock Workflow Potential: Automate Actions with Data from API Responses
As part of this release, we’re adding an enhancement for extracting data from API responses. This will significantly enhance the functionality of process integrations. Previously, administrators could only act on a binary success or failure status, but now, they can access and utilize detailed information embedded in API responses. This capability allows data to be parsed, mapped, and stored in custom or system fields, enabling advanced workflow conditions and actions.
For example, an HR system like Workday or SuccessFactors can send names or PTO balances as part of its API response, which can then be added to notifications or service request fields. Similarly, when scheduling a meeting in Zoom via process integration, the API response can include details such as the meeting link, time, and duration, which can be automatically added to workflow notifications or custom fields in service requests.
By enabling deeper customization and automation, this feature streamlines workflows, improves operational efficiency, and ensures more meaningful data-driven actions within business processes. For more, see Use data retrieved from third-party applications in workflows.
Enhanced Authentication with OAuth 2.0 for Secure Integrations
We are also releasing enhanced support for authentication methods in SolarWinds Service Desk to align with industry standards. The introduction of OAuth 2.0 authentication helps ensure secure, standardized communication with third-party services.
With OAuth 2.0, users can easily configure secure API integrations, including automatic token-based authentication during workflow execution. Sensitive credentials are securely managed in the newly restructured Credentials area, ensuring improved security and usability. Additionally, OAuth 2.0 helps enable seamless integration setup with authentication tokens dynamically handled without exposing them to end-users.
These enhancements reinforce our commitment to providing secure, modernized authentication options, empowering users to streamline workflows and automate processes confidently. For more, see Process integrations and OAuth 2.0 on the Credentials page.
Reduce Time and Effort Spent Troubleshooting with New JSON Response Analysis
Our third part of this release is the new method for troubleshooting and debugging which provides the ability to download and analyze JSON responses directly from third-party integrations is designed to enhance troubleshooting and debugging for IT administrators, particularly those with technical expertise in interpreting JSON files.
By including HTTP JSON responses in email notifications for specific conditions, such as integration failures, admins can immediately access critical data without additional steps. This capability improves the ability to identify errors, analyze inconsistencies, and understand detailed response information, significantly reducing the time to diagnose and resolve issues.
For team members who can effectively scan and interpret JSON files, this feature provides invaluable insights into where bugs or failures are occurring, enabling more precise and efficient debugging. The feature supports scenarios like failed data parsing or unsuccessful updates through process integrations, ensuring comprehensive visibility into error contexts. Ultimately, this functionality empowers teams to act swiftly and minimize disruptions, bolstering their efficiency. For more, see Download a complete JSON response from a process integration call and include the response text in an email notification, and manually download the JSON text from a workflow process error.
