April 6 Release for SolarWinds®︎ Service Desk: Field Mapping of Triggered Incidents, Power BI Custom Field Enhancement, and New Match Serial Number Option for Asset Management
Better Together: Simplifying Workflows Between SolarWinds Observability and Service Desk
This month we’re releasing an enhancement to help improve how our products work together – field mapping of triggered incidents from SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted and SolarWinds Observability SaaS. This update will help strengthen the connection between SolarWinds Observability and SolarWinds Service Desk, delivering a more unified IT operations experience. By enabling structured field mapping and simplifying the mapping process between observability alerts and ITSM fields, these updates transform unstructured data into actionable insights, helping to improve triage, automation, and reporting.
Admins can more easily define custom mappings, reuse existing configurations, and integrate mapped fields into automation workflows—streamlining incident response and resolution. With dedicated connectors and integration pages within Service Desk settings, mapping and managing these integrations is easier than ever, helping ensure IT teams can seamlessly escalate, track, and resolve alerts across SolarWinds solutions and reinforcing the benefits of a full IT ecosystem.
This feature is available to customers on the Advanced and Premier plans. For more information, see Set up field mapping for SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted alerts and Set up field mapping for SolarWinds Observability SaaS alerts.
Note: Incident and asset (where applicable) origins will now be defined as ‘SWO-SaaS’ and ‘SWO Self-Hosted' in the product.
A New Power BI Enhancement to Help Simplify Data Analyzation of Custom Fields
We're excited to release this enhancement to the Power BI integration, which allows custom fields to be displayed as separate columns within their respective object tables, rather than as nested lists. This improvement makes it significantly easier for administrators and Power BI analysts to use custom fields in reports, charts, and dashboards without complex transformations. By treating custom fields as regular system fields, users can seamlessly incorporate them into their data analysis, improving efficiency and usability. For more information, see Optional: Add custom fields to Power BI models.
Start Improving Asset Accuracy with the New Match Serial Number Setting Option
This release helps to enhance the accuracy of asset management by allowing customers to match discovered computers based solely on serial numbers, helping to reduce duplicate asset records caused by inconsistent matching on MAC addresses and other fields. By allowing this option to be selected as on or off in the settings, customers gain greater control over how assets are reconciled across multiple sources like agents, scanners, and SCCM. This can help improve data accuracy, minimize manual cleanup, and streamline asset tracking. For more, see Asset Management: Asset Unique Identifier(s).
