Solarwinds with SMS API for Alert Notification

There are examples if you search thwack for Alert Actions using an API for Teams, Slack, PagerDuty and others. Best practices would dictate configuring these actions on Alerts that require a Human to take action. Share these expectations with those targeted to receive these messages. Start small with a couple alerts. Test alert actions before going live. Establish a go live date. Follow up with with the team after an event to solicit feedback.

You can send the SMS by using Send Mail as an alert action. Google 'sending SMS messages from email' and it will explain how it works. You will need to determine the carriers you are sending to and add the carriers gateway such as    PhoneNumber@vtext.com for Verizon

We are testing with Messaging API provider Telstra. 

May I know how do i create the OAuth 2.0 access token from Solarwinds? 

We are testing out messaging API provided by Telstra. We are trying to set it up with our Solarwinds platform so that we use this for our SMS notification for NPM, NCM and all. Current solarwinds verison 2020.2. 

Wanted to know how to integrate this API with Solarwinds? Like where in settings I should go? How to creae the OAuth 2.0 access token from SolarWinds?

For SMS, SolarWinds supports sending via email per the documentation. 

I'm not familiar with Telstra, but if their software supports webhook communication or running a script that connects to the API that may be a work around that works for you. You can see how it was set up for someone using Slack here.

arijitnaha, you should be able to build headers with the oAuth data to post straight to Telstra. If you can post with Curl to make a connection to Telstra, you should be able to use that in the Alert action to get/Post to a url. 

If you have a sample script, it might be easier use the script action to make that post. 

Just a waring, there are limits to how much you can use the free services of US providers, our organization ended up moving to a paid service (through Verizon) to better handle the volume to email to SMS texts. 

I do not have any script. As per the API documentation need the OAuth 2.0 token. 

Could you please guide me how this can be done? Or how can I test out the GET/POST request working or not from solarwinds towards API?

Solarwinds --> Telstra Messaging API --> SMS to users.

Your token comes from the API you connect to. It's going to be in the Telstra documentation. I would expect examples there too. Get the examples they provide working with the configuration they provided to you, and then start working how to bring it into Solarwinds.
