How to activate additional nodes in HCO

Hi - On one of my HCO installations, I need to increase my node count.   I have available licenses in the subscription.  So how do I increase it say from 725 to 800?

I see 2 paths:

1) Deactivate the 725, wait for it to sync back to Solarwinds.  Then activate 800.  The possible problem with this is Orion wouldn't be polling during the deactivate time.  I'm not sure how quick the deactivate process is to make the license available again.

2) Try to Add license, use the same key, and enter 75 as the quantity of nodes to activate.  My concern with this option is it might (?) replace the current 725 with 75.  And then I would be back to option 1 above.

What is the quickest method to increase the node count?  Again I have available licenses in the subscription.

Thanks

Kevin

  • Option 1 is your only option at this time, synching with the licensing server should be immediate.  If you are online, you deactivate your license then immediately reactivate it with the desired quantity.  If you are offline, you'll have to follow the offline procedure.

  • Agreed with  this is the best way to increase your node count within HCO.

Deactivate your current license (adds those licensed nodes back into the 'pool'
Activate with your new node count (as long as it doesn't exceed what's in your 'pool')

Then you're ready to rock and roll!

There will be a short window where monitoring will stop, but it's usually a very quick turnaround unless the SolarWinds server is isolated from the internet.

  • Thank you both.   It was smooth.   My original concern was just how fast the sync with the license server would be due to experience with a different vendor taking about an hour.   But this was almost immediate as bmrad suggested.
