Consolidation effort

I have a client with multiple instances of solarwinds, I'm not sure yet which modules they have but they have 7 locations each with there own solarwinds. Is it possible to consolidate all 7 instances into a singe pane of glass? There looking to consolidate all locations to one.

Any suggestions would be helpful. For example what do i do with all the licenses for each one?

  • There are a couple of different routes you could take, the right answer is really 'what is best for your client'

    1. Consolidate to a single deployment (potentially with additional polling engines at each location)
      1. Pros: Simplified administration, consolidated web views, alerts, and reports. decreased licensing cost for Microsoft SQL server instances and Windows OS Licensing.
      2. Cons: All your monitoring eggs are in a single basket. You can add High Availability to help with this. If each site/location needs autonomy during an outage, then keeping each site might still be required. Upgrades will bring monitoring down for everything.
    2. Use the Enterprise Operations Console (EOC)
      1. Pros: no reinstallation of instances in required. EOC is a new standalone server that can aggregate dashboards into a single view.
      2. Cons: Usually requires a lot of customization on the dashboards to build them to how you want to show your data.

In either scenario, it would be additional licensing cost. It would probably make sense to talk with your sales rep to see the cost to convert your license to Hybrid Cloud Observability Enterprise Edition. It is the same platform that you're running today. It comes with scale for additional polling engines, HA, AND EOC (mentioned in #2) plus potentially additional feature/functionality you might not have with your current license. that license would give you the flexibility to go with either option mentioned earlier and pivot to other deployment options down the road without having to change your license again.
