Solarwinds Additional Instance

Hello,

My company has recently purchased licensing for an additional Solarwinds instance with an EOC. Our environment is fairly large and our current instance has well over 100K elements and we were advised to split our environment by our Solarwinds account team. I'm having trouble finding documentation on how to set this up and would also like to hear from others with more than one Solarwinds instance. We are currently running NPM, NCM, NTA, SAM, SRM, VMAN, IPAM and VNQM on an environment with 1 primary poller, 7 additional pollers and 1 large DB.

Thanks,

MC

KMSigma we spoke briefly at MS Ignite 2017 in Orlando, FL and you showed interest in this scalability topic.

  • Thanks for all of the information KMSigmacjfrancajblankjblank, I was wondering if there is a way to remove an additional poller currently assigned to one Orion instance/manager and move it over to a second instance?

    Thanks,

    MC

  • You should be able to log into the instance in which the polling engine is currently assigned.  Ensure you move any entities that are monitored via the polling engine you wish to re-assign, and then go into All Settings > Settings > under details > License Manager > find the Additional Polling engine > select > and deactivate.  This license will then be available in your portal.

Make sure your environment where you wish to leverage the Additional Polling Engine is on the latest version and HF3 using the Falcon Installer.  Log into the web console > go to All Settings > Settings > and under details > Polling Engines.  In the upper right hand corner you can download the installer, run it on the APE server, and then assign the license you made available in the  portal to this APE.
