Restart ARM-Service automatically when connection is lost

I have ARM 2025.1.0.82 installed on a Windows 2022 server.  I also have 4 Windows 2022 file servers I am monitoring for changes, deletes, etc.  Seems like every few days one of the servers looses connection to the ARM Server.  In the ARM Configuration the collector says:

Disconnected. Reason: Failed to determin the installed ARM versio and - if possibe - to start it.

When I check the file server the ARM-Service appears to be running and I do not see anything in the event log on the server.

To resolve the error, most of the time I can right click on the connector and chose to restart it.  Most of the time that works, but sometimes it appears to be trying to install the connector again first before it starts the service.

I also see that I can restart the service on the file servers and it eventually connects after a couple of minutes.

Is there anything in ARM that monitors this and can restart this automatically?

  • Hi Jordan,

Normally the collectors will reconnect after some time, but it can take 10 to 15 minutes after the issue occurs. The ARM Server does retry to connect to the collectors every few minutes if the connection is lost. As you've found, the quickest resolution is the right-click/restart option. You can also restart the ARM service on the collector and it should then reconnect.

This is an issue I've seen in other installations.

If you continue to have the problem, open a support case and we can look at your environment and logs for possible solutions.

Also just FYI, there is ARM 2025.2 that was just released on Tuesday 15 April, which has some updates and fixes.
