Schedule Play Times in WPM

Hello, we thought it would be very useful to be able to schedule our transactions play times.  This would help us keep the load down both on Orion and the applications themselves.  For example, we monitor a number of individual web servers as well as the web site as a whole.  This gives us a quick alert if there is a problem with any of the servers for our mission critical applications.  I've spaced them out manually by using the Play Now function but it is not very accurate.  It would be nice if we could create a schedule to run them on like this:

x = hour

Transaction1 runs every 5 minutes at x:00 and x:05.
Transaction2 runs every 5 minutes at x:01 and x:06.

Transaction3 runs every 5 minutes at x:02 and x:07.

Transaction4 runs every 5 minutes at x:03 and x:08.

Transaction5 runs every 5 minutes at x:04 and x:09.

  • To expand on this...I would like to be able to schedule Transaction A to only run from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM and then the transaction is unmanaged after hours.  Basically we need the ability to apply custom schedules to transactions.

  • Hello klinejw,

    the functionality to unmanage transaction during the specified window is already present in WPM 2.0. You just need to use unmanage scheduling utility to define when the entity should be unmanaged.

  • What I was referring to is an automated reoccurring schedule - not a one-time unmanage scenario.

  • It seems that we've misunderstood each other. What I meant was to use Unmanage Scheduling Utility, which can be found in Start Menu in All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Unmanage Scheduling Utility.

    You can use this tool to create an unmanage task which can be then scheduled for execution using the Windows Task Scheduler. You can find more information about how to use this tool in the following blog post , the post is little bit older so some information may not be relevant anymore. But it should give you a rough idea how to use this tool.

    Let me know if you have any questions.
