Notification that data collection has failed

Based on a recent outage I encountered, I would like to see a notification or be able to create an alert if SWVM data collection fails. This issue has cropped up repeatedly due to various causes, and the only indication I have that it's happened is usually when I go to troubleshoot an issue or pull a report and discover that the data is stale. The most recent issue was that the data collector had apparently dumped core at some point, causing the root partition to fill up. While resolving the root cause is, of course, preferable, the issue happens sufficiently frequently that some sort of alert seems in order.
