Orion Maps: Add Hyperlink To Application, Group, and Node Icons

Background

In Maps 1.0 (i.e. Network Atlas), a user can select any icon for a managed entity and add a hyperlink. However, in Maps 2.0 (i.e. Orion Maps) icons for managed entities do not have this capability.

Workaround

The current workaround is to insert an object (e.g. Rectangle, Circle, Label, or Images) into an Orion Map and then to add a hyperlink to the object.

Steps:

1. Navigate To: Settings > All Settings > Manage Orion Maps > Select Map > Edit > Insert {Object} (e.g. Rectangle)

Note: The available objects include a, Rectangle, Circle, Label, or Images.

2. Select inserted object: Rectangle

3. In the properties for Rectangle, click on the dropdown arrow next to the BEHAVIOR section.

4. Input a URL in the Hyperlink box (e.g /Orion/SummaryView.aspx?ViewID=1)

However, objects don't provide status (i.e. Up, Down, Critical, Warning) for applications, groups, and nodes. And so, this is not an acceptable solution.

Feature Request

The hyperlink feature should be available for all managed entities in Applications, Groups, and Nodes in the Entity Library.

Use Cases

Below, I have listed each managed entity type and the use case for consideration:

Applications:

The ability to add a hyperlink to the managed entities in Orion Maps > Map Editor > Entity Library > Applications will allow users to create robust Application views that linked to Component views.

In the Application View, a user can use Orion Maps to drill down to investigate not only the components of the application, but also related components.

Groups:

The ability to add a hyperlink to the managed entities in Orion Maps > Map Editor > Entity Library > Groups will allow users to create Location views (e.g. United States) that linked to Sub-Location views (e.g. Washington State).

In the Location view, a user can use Orion Maps to drill down to investigate the status of network devices at each location. This is critical to the management of applications and nodes that span across physical locations.

Nodes:

The ability to add a hyperlink to the managed entities in Orion Maps > Map Editor > Entity Library > Nodes will allow users to create robust Rack Cabinet views that linked to Equipment views.

In the Rack Cabinet view, a user can use Orion Maps to drill down to investigate the status of equipment.
