Correct way to add nodes, pollers and custom properties

Our NOC has asked to have a way to automate of adding nodes so it more consistent. What is the prior way to do this? How many scripts should I have?

Can I combine the adding of the node and custom property into script? What about pollers?

Thanks

  • Depends on your language of preference, but there's a way to do it automatically.  Most of the Home · solarwinds/OrionSDK Wiki (github.com) explains how to do it.  And, yes you can do all of those things.  For me, I would do it in the following way:

    1. Build the node and assign the pollers as needed.
    2. Using the returned NodeID (or Node URI), you can easily add the custom properties (assuming they are already defined)
    3. If you want specific additional pollers (UnDP), then they can be added before or after the custom property assignment.

There are a few things that still need to be done in the web console, but not very many.  Get your environment stable and working as you expect, and only then begin to add in your automation.
