If the archiving feature has yet to be enabled but having an archive point is desired, a good feature to add to the archiving tab is to be able to select a given backup that is within the product's retention and apply the archive flag to it. A case of this would be if you would no longer being able to back up a device but you would still want the data that has already been backed up retained as an archive point. This is desired where you do not want to create a new product to increase the retention of the device.
