How does TCP Port Monitor determine "down" status?

Hi,

what is the condition for the TCP Port Monitor component status to become "down"?

Some possibilities:

"Criticial" threshold (but then status shold be "critical" and not "down")
Polling timout value
When the underlying TCP protocol reports failure to reach the node (but that surely also uses a timeout that can be parameterized?)

Hello Leon,
thanks! This does shed some light on how critical/warning and down states are determined:
* Down: No answer
* Critical/warning: Answer after a long wait
Now there can be two types of TCP connection failures:
* Immediate rejection (for example, the target port is not active)
* Timeout
What I had in mind when I asked the question was the timeout scenario. For example, if I set the "Critical" condition to a higher value than the connection timeout, it will never be triggered. But how can I know what that timeout is?

As dumb as this sounds, we're not seeing the TCP Port Monitor in templates. I know you can roil your own, so no big deal, but is there supposed to be a default template for this?

This is the same question coming into my mind as well.
Will it show the status down if server not respond to the port.
