external node/url monitoring

I'm trying to monitor some external urls but the urls are not pingable. I set it up as a external node and since it's not pingable it shows up under "THE FOLLOWING NODES ARE NOT RESPONDING". I don't want to tie it to another node since it is something separate. How can i monitor an external node/url that isn't pingable?

I do not believe it is possible to monitor a node that is not pingable. i do know that you can add URLs to an external node with in orion and monitor those URLs with SAM templates.

If you add a node as "External Node" Orion will not ping it or anything, it's just a "place holder" for situations like this.

Add that and assign your URL-monitoring to that external node.

i m monitoring the URLS in same way but all of them are showing in unknown state

Is it the URL-monitors that are unknown? They are checked from the polling engine that the node is assigned to. You could log into that polling engine and manually check that you can reach the URL's from there.

But, if the are not reachable they should be down. Not unknown. There is some other issue here. Maybe you should try to enable debugging on that application and see the log file.
