Encryption of data at rest

Allow for the encryption of data at rest based on user or group (with the option of having the data recoverable by an admin / system admin if needed on a per-share / per-group basis if desired.)

  • Any movement at all towards this in near future updates?  This is rapidly becoming a must have feature for most of our users because if you have any pi data or other sensitive information, the files must be encrypted at rest.  It's too difficult to train users on how to encrypt before placing and how to decrypt after downloading.  We love Serv-u for many reasons, but we may have to move away from it because of this lack of automated file encryption.  We need to be able to define multiple folders depending on our users needs with private keys processing, as described in ericds134 comment.

  • Thanks for the great details Aaron. I updated our internal record for the PGP we track under # 233516.

  • I would love to see integration of PGP. Would need to set rules such as "any files uploaded to \dir\dir* needs to be encrypted with X.asc public pgp key immediately after being uploaded". Alternatively, if solarwinds would monitor dir X --> encrypt files placed there --> move to dir Y

the opposite would be nice as well .. monitor dir X --> decrypt files placed there with X.asc private pgp key --> move to dir Y

This is obviously a big feature request! But would be nice. I think for now, I will need to get this functionality using 3rd party applications/processes.
