Load Balancing Additional Web Servers (AWS)

Working on a team managing a fairly large Orion installation.  Currently accessing the Solarwinds console through a single web server.

We would like to set up 1-3 Additional Web Servers (AWS) and set them up in a load-balancing configuration, i.e. URI "orion.mycompany.internal" goes to one IP address, but session requests get distributed between the web servers.

Looking at the HA documentation it does not appear the HA product works with web servers and does not provide load balancing functionality.

Please advise if Solarwinds offers a load balancing solution for web servers, or if we need to use a third-party device such as an F5 for load balancing.

Thanks.

  • What you are saying is correct, SolarWinds don't provide any type of load balancing facilities when it comes to the Web Servers. You'd need to provide your own LB services. You can use various LB services, some are free = HA Proxy (just need resources) while others you pay for = F5, Citrix NetScaler etc... If you do go down this route, when LB the web servers you will need to configure them using Sticky / Source IP in order for them to work properly.
