My colleague sees empty reports.

I do not manage our Orion products. I cannot log onto the hosting servers. However, I am an admin within Orion. We use AD accounts. The LAN admin responsible for the care and feeding of the products patches regularly.

I am mentoring a new team member. We are not prepared to make him a full admin within Orion. Even though it looks like he should be able see some things, he cannot. e.g. He cannot look at switch config backups. e.g. reports have no data

What could I be missing?

  • User permissions - or less likely restrictions.

Sadly SolarWinds user permissions aren't as flexible as we'd all like. We have found that for our everyday users to see reports they need to have permissions far higher than we want to hand out.

The other aspect is that you can set report limitations on a per report basis (see the Properties tab). We don't use this feature at all as it would make a poor situation worse.

I have seen numerous requests for SolarWinds to make their permissions more granular, and that's just in my 3yrs of using it - though I can't find one right now to point you at for up voting. It is also my number one bug bear.
