Create subnets, so they are reserved, without creating entries for the IP addresses.

I would like the option to be able to create subnets without creating all the entires for induvidual IP addresses.

For example, our Asian offices all fall within a 10.160.0.0/12 supernet.

In this case, I am not too concerend about what induvidual  IP reservations have been made by their IT team, I just want a notfication if I attempt to create a new subnet that already falls within that range.

We have lot of have other large subnets (/16's etc). At present IPAM creates pages and pages of IP address entires for each one added. We have so many, that the system is becoming unstable and regularly falling over

I would suggest adding a tick box to subnet properties\creation page, that gives option to remove the IP entries. Effectively the created subnet would act as a reservation for that range.

Taking it further, it would be nice if you could then add induvidual IP reservations to this, once this option was selected.

Thanks.

  • Hi,

Would the following work for you:

    1. Create a Supernet definition in IPAM and populate with the live Subnet definitions only

    2. For each of the other subnets you wish to 'subnet reserve' create a Group entry to act as a non populated placeholder in a format such at '10.10.10.0/24 - UNUSED'

    OR

    1. Create a Supernet definition in IPAM and populate with the live Subnet definitions only

    2. Ensure that IPAM is configured to not allow duplicate subnets

    3. Create an Alert within Orion that notifies you when new subnets are created in IPAM
