Can DPA for Azure SQL be hosted locally ?

I have a license for DPA for Azure SQL that I think was purchased by mistake. My understanding is that this product is only intended for monitoring databases in Azure OR it could itself be hosted in Azure and pointed at locally hosted SQL databases. However, it cannot be hosted on local servers and used to monitor local databases. We have no cloud functionality at my company, so I think we purchased the wrong version of DPA.

Am I correct?

  • A license for Azure SQL is to connect to Azure endpoints.  The version of DPA is identical, it's just the licensing that's applied.  You can probably contact your account manager and have that license number swapped over to a different one.
