ARM - MS SQL Server - Maintenance Plan Tasks - Config

Hello all,

we got the task to set up the DB on MS SQL Server 2014 for ARM for our customer.

What could be the best practice to configure the Maintenance Plan Task for this DB?

For what kind of tasks should we make the settings? Please see the print screen below.

Will the "ARM DataBase Maintenance" Job set these tasks automatically? What exactly does the "ARM DataBase Maintenance" job do?

Thank you very much in advance for your answer.

Kind regards,
Kristina

  • Hello Kristina,
you can't configure database settings in ARM. ARM just creates a database with the default settings which resides in the model database. If you need some database tweaking like multiple data files or multiple filegroups you have to setup it manually.
ARM does not create any maintenance jobs either. You have to setup the jobs by yourself.
At least you need a backup job. I strongly advise to use the Ola Hallengren scripts.
Easy to setup, easy to use.
The type of recovery model of the database is up to you. We use full recovery with transaction log backup.
But maybe your customer is ok with the simple mode.

    Regards

    Marcus
