Re: Feature Request: APM Structure
denny.lecompte Jul 2, 2009 10:13 AM (in response to kevin.evans)What you want to do is not possible. Something we've thinking about is the ability to associate an Application Details view with a specific template so that you'd always see a specific view when you clicked down to a specific application. Would that work for what you're trying to accomplish?

Re: Feature Request: APM Structure
kevin.evans Jul 2, 2009 3:47 PM (in response to denny.lecompte)I am not sure to be honest.
We would just like to have a template for various server roles or apps. For example IIS, Exchange, we would then apply these to each node where applicable. Some nodes might have several templates assigned to it as it may have several purposes.
We would then like to group these in a logical manner rather than a physical manner for the APM list.
This is quite a tricky one to explain. I am not sure I am explaining this very well.

Isn't that how APM works now? You can create a template for IIS, Exchange, Windows, and then apply each template to the appropriate servers.

Not sure what you mean here. Group the templates? By physical, do you mean by node?

Yes this is how APM works now, but we would then rather than base the webpage view based on template name, we would like to see another tier where you could categorise the template and base the view on this category.
This would allow us to display the webpage based on the services that we offer to our customers rather than a template name which may contain several services that we offer to our customers.
We have a catalouge of the services that we supply to our customers, and SLA's are assigned to each service, we need a way to mirror the APM webpage view with this list and for the graphs to go back over a period of time for reporting and analysis purposes. This bit about the charts going back in time correctly has been requested previously.
Does you understand what we are trying to achieve? If you have any further questions, please ask.

Re: Feature Request: APM Structure
denny.lecompte Jul 7, 2009 7:41 AM (in response to kevin.evans)Would a "service" be a collection of APM applications? You would then be able to group applications into a service that you define?

Re: Feature Request: APM Structure
kevin.evans Jul 7, 2009 7:51 AM (in response to denny.lecompte)Yes that is pretty much what we are after. Is this achievable?

Re: Feature Request: APM Structure
denny.lecompte Jul 7, 2009 8:31 AM (in response to kevin.evans)It isn't possible today, but what you describe is something we are definitely planning for the future. It's an important element of our roadmap.

kevin.evans Jul 7, 2009 8:59 AM (in response to denny.lecompte)That's really good to hear. Do you have any estimated timeframes?

denny.lecompte Jul 7, 2009 9:36 AM (in response to kevin.evans)No. We really can't provide time frames.

SAM 5.5 (Currently in Release Candidate) allows you to create Custom Properties for applications, and then leverage these properties for sorting and grouping the All Applications Resource.
