Hang in there, if I had to guess SP1 will probably be out by the end of the week.  Again that's just a guess.

You will need to restore from a backup to get Orion 8.5.1 working.

We now have Orion 8.5.1sp3 and Netflow 3.0 SP2 working fine.

When Neflow 3.0 came out, we could not use it until the SP2 was released because netflow would fill up the transaction log and crash the database.

After installing Orion 9.0 with Netflow 3.0SP2, we experienced the same issue where the transaction log would fill up and crash the database, so we had to fall back to Orion 8.5.1.

That's strange.  We had similar trouble with 8.5.1 and Netflow 3.0.  Didn't see any issues with Netflow after the 9.0 upgrade.

After running the Configuration Wizard about 1000 times I am finally fully functional on Ver. 9 and everything worked trouble free over the weekend.

Thanks to support for helping me through the upgrade from hell.

My only guess is if things are not working after the upgrade keep running through the Config Wizard until everything works. Not sure why that helped but that is what ultimately fixed my upgrade. About the 20th time everything started correctly and it was good to go. The alerts are all working and I did not have to re-create them after this was working.

One thing I have noticed with the Config Wizard is that it sometimes does not wait for the NPM service to stop.  It's happened for me for several releases.  For some reason, my NPM service takes forever to stop, which can often cause the Config Wizard to time-out and just move on ahead.  I always end up having to start the NPM service manually after running the Config Wizard.

                  HI BB,

                  I had to go from 7.8.1 to 7.8.5 to 8.5 to 9

Lots of fun  - script for the 7.8.5 kept dying but the good news is If anyone is at this step -> after the SQL database has done the schema upgrade you do not need a functioning product to upgrade to 8.5

Just run the 8.5 product upgrade and the system will continue on no issues.

After 8.5 my upgrade to 9 was flawless.

SW....any ETA on SP1 for V9?  Do we have a confirmed issue list of bugs going to be fixed in the 1st SP?

Service pack 1 is available. It is not available as an independent Download but if you download and unzip Orion 9.0 there is an update.exe that is SP1, or at least what support told me.

I just did my install today on v8.5.1 SP3 --> 9.0 SP1. It went pretty smooth but I did also run into a few weird problems.

First I was not being able to contact the license server after upgrade but I got around that by just skipping and entering the key manually

I then ran into this weird problem..

                            SolarWinds.NPM.BusinessLayer

After rerunning the Configuration Wizard it appears to be resolved now..

I have heard that it could of been a service shut down part of the upgrade script that may be failing but so far so good.

Universal Device Poller also didn't work at first but after rerunning the Configuration Wizard to fix the crashing service issue the U.D.P started working..

I did notice another glitch, purely cosmetic though, it seems.

In the Event Summary module on my main page, it lists "APM Service Stopped", and "APM Service Started" although I'm sure it's referencing the NPM service. This is listed correctly in the Last 25 Events module.

I had forgotten to note this earlier - it is still evident in SP1.

SP1, by the way, installed without a hitch. Thanks!

                              Cheers,

                              Grant

A big S**T about this... I loaded the SP1 and I do not have any nodes showing in System Manager

                                help?

Oh and boy, don't it get worse!...I opened APM and it tells me I have 16 days left on my evaluation!...and when I check they license, it says it is installed!....

                                   How do I go back!

Not a big deal, but I did notice that after installing SP1, just one of my monitored nodes had most all of its interfaces disappear.  It's as though the snmp ifIndexes all changed.  Weird.

Well, it's broke for real now...I am doing a repair and hoping that things start working again...I did have the good sense to do a diagnostic run on it and will send this off to SW...

I'd suggest doing a query on the Engines table in the database first.  If you see two engines in there and you really only have one Orion poller, then it's a pretty simple fix to get everything back working again.

I had upgraded from v8.5.1 to v9 with no problems except the cosmetic x-axis problem on some graphs. Today I applied SP1 for v9 and after the upgrade, NPM would not load. The service was stuck in a continual state of 'stopping'. I rebooted and everything came up fine (SL250 with NetFlowV3 amd Cirrus).

Next time, I'd suggest just waiting for the service to stop.  My Orion installation takes about 10 minutes to actually stop the service.  I noticed today that there are a ton of failed security audits in the event log on the server that seem to correspond with the times I tried to restart the service.  Maybe you have the same problem as I do?

I don't wait too long.  I'll give it about 1 minute and if it doesn't work I'll go into task manager, find the service name, and stop the process.

I gave it a long time and it didn't stop. I show no errors in the event viewer for security. All is fine now after a reboot. It may have eventually came back, I don't know. It appeared to be stuck. The whole upgrade went fine until the end when it restarts NPM and it does a new baseline run. that is where it failed. Looking at the service it said stopping and I couldn't do anything with it. I waited about 15 minutes and rebooted. Then the baseline run went fine. All seems to be working now. Yeah, I was probably quick to pull the trigger....

Is this fixed in SP1?  Our Orion takes a good 5 minutes to stop the service.  In Task Manager, I watch memory usage slowly tick down from about 218M avg to around 170+/-M and finally, poof, it's gone.

I found another bug after upgrading to SP1 (cant say for sure if it was there before)

Using the webbased Node Manager - when I List Resources for a CMTS (Cisco UBR7246) i get the usual options under each interface - Interface Traffic Charts and Interface Error Charts - but I also get an option called Signal Quality Charts - I assume this is a leftover from the old Broadband version ?? the Signal quality charts option is not listed when using the System Manager.

It's not really a problem just thought someone should let development know..
