there are many ways you can do this.
What we've done is use custom property called "Realm" to identify Production/Staging/Dev/QA/LAB, etc.. and one for Dept.
I have a SQL job running nightly that looks at the realm and current thresholds to see if OOB defaults, then change it based on Realm, Dept.
The logic also looks to see if non-standard and leaves alone if "overridden".
We tried for adding custom property for nodes. However, this is causing issues and not working at the moment. The case was opened for months and shared logs multiple times. No resolution yet..
I think what njoylif is referring to is this value under the Edit Node screen
and building your alerts like this
He runs a SQL job that sets different over ride values based on his realm/dept so that he doesn't have to manage setting the thresholds manually. Not sure what kind of problem you ran into but I have set up similar schemes at many sites in the past. Maybe if you clarified more on the problems you are having someone on Thwack could suggest something.
