Posting on a thread in NPM forum isn't showing under recent activity???

There's a pretty important thread about problems (to Orion website) caused by applying recent MS patches to .NET upgrading it to 4.6.1:  Orion Website issues after dotnet patching

The problem I'm having is when we post on this thread it's not moving up to the top of recent activity like I think it's supposed to and I'm just wondering why?  Isn't any activity on a thread supposed to pop it to the top of recent activity?

  • Hi ecklerwr1 - Yes when a post is commented on, it will bring it into the Recent Content feature; however, there are some forums that have a lot of content being created, and it could be that other content was created even more recently, which could theoretically bump it out of that "widget". One thing that I could suggest is with the new upgrade, you have options to customize your view, which allows our users to personalize what they see however they want to. You can group and categorize information the way it makes sense to you, using auto-populating tiles such as Frequently Viewed, Recently Viewed, etc. This would allow you to see the responses on that thread and keep up with it.

If you haven't had a chance to explore this feature, you will see "Your View" right underneath your Inbox. When you click on "Your View", there is an "edit this page" option in the right hand corner. Below is an example of the view I created for myself, as well as how to add tiles that will auto-populate the information you want to see. I don't know if this is helpful to you, but thought I'd mention it.

It's easy to add tiles; just click on the "add tile" and it will give you categories to select from and each category has an auto-populating tile associated to it.

  • I see it now at the top of the list when I click on content under NPM forum:  Network Performance Monitor   I was used to always seeing anything changed goto the top of the "Recent Content" area at the bottom of the page and it doesn't seem to... I don't know if this is some change or if only content from certain areas show up in the bottom "Recent Content" area now maybe?

I'll have to experiment with the view settings... I've never really changed any of those setting before per se.

  • Oh, yes, that piece has changed a little bit too when I added pagination. I was so sick of having to search for content and the latest content was at the very bottom, yet there was no option to go to the last page to see the latest content. That drove me crazy!

Let me know how you like the view settings. This is new and was never an option for our users to customize in the past. As we continue to experiment with the auto-populating tiles, we'll probably have some updates in other areas of thwack, too, but nothing official just yet. We're still playing with that new functionality ourselves. :-)

  • See here why is the one showing and not the other in the recent content on all pages at the bottom?

You can see the Error Unexpectect Website Error on at the top of recent content but why doesn't the more recent Orion Website issues one also show?  That's the part I don't understand.  They are both questions in the same forum???

  • Ah, yes...fair point, sir! Let me see if I can review the algorithm behind the "recent content" filters and see if there is something that would be eliminating this particular post from being viewed in that widget. Thanks for clarifying Bill!
