How To Move A License

Hi

I need to install an Engineer's Toolset on a machine here, but I notice on the Customer Portal that the license is already in use.  This is because one of our engineers had to rebuild his laptop recently, and used that license instead of his existing one when he installed the toolset.

Can anybody tell me how to go about freeing up the original license, which is no longer in use, so that I can install it on the machine the new license was intended for?

Cheers

  • Hello,

basically you just need to deactivate the license on engineer's laptop and then active it on your machine.

    Deactivation

    • Run the License Manager tool (Start / All Programs / SolarWinds Engineer's Toolset / Utilities / Install License Manager)
    • Select you Engineer's Toolset license
    • Deactivate it

    Activation

    • Run License Information tool (Start / All Programs / SolarWinds Engineer's Toolset / Utilities / Enter License Information)
      • Or you can basically run any tool, license dialog should be displayed at start
    • Activate your license
  • Hi

Thanks for that.  That's what I would have done under normal circumstances, but because the laptop was rebuilt (and the previous installation entirely obliterated) it is not listed in the newly installed License Manager.  I could free up the one that is there, but I'd still need to have the other one freed up as well for him to reactivate on his laptop.

    Cheers

  • This will probably be something you'll have to contact support for. They should be able to deactivate your license for you. http://www.solarwinds.com/support/ticket

  • Yeah, that's what I thought.  I opened a support ticket earlier today.

    Thanks.
