Re: Root password
DennisH Nov 1, 2011 12:56 AM (in response to jonathan.reeve)Hi jonathan.reeve, could you also please send me the "root" password for the SolarWinds Virtual Manager Appliance as well.?
I'm just finished installing the VM (Virtualization Manager v4.0 Virtual Appliance for vCenter 2.5), which looked to me that it has a built-in Red Hat Enterprise Linux O/S 5 in it; and I need to adjust some environment settings on this Server (ie: time & Date, User Accounts, etc.) which require a Root account and password.
I really appreciate you help on this issue.
Thanks & regards,
Dennis H.

cloudsmith Nov 1, 2011 8:56 AM (in response to DennisH)1 of 1 people found this helpfulDennis,
Solarwinds does not supply the root password from the twack forums any longer. To be honest, it makes sense that they wouldn't give out the root password on a community forum. Since there is no way for them to track whether or not the customers have valid licenses here.
You have 2 options:
1. Open a support ticket under the customer portal.
2. If you're savvy enough with LINUX and the GRUB boot menu you can boot the appliance into single user mode and reset the root password yourself. There is plenty of info on the web for this.
Hope this helps

As Milan pointed out any administrative functions requiring root on the appliance can be accomplished using "sudo su".

Re: Root password
chrispaap Dec 15, 2015 10:56 AM (in response to jfc)Hi,
If you login to VMAN appliance as "admin" and run the fsck command via "sudo su"
Does that accomplish what you need?
