Time for a Message Center Revamp - Ability to See Past Alert Activity

When Alert Management moved to Web we lost some of the abilities we had when it was server based.  Namely the ability to see past Alerts and their Acknowledgements.  While it is OK, IMHO, that this ability is not cluttering the "Active Alerts" page, raising the possibility of causing confusion, it should be available somewhere, like in Message Center.

Here is what I would like to see...

  • Change "Show active alerts" to "Show alerts".
  • Move "Show acknowledged" under this filter section as it is confusing where it resides today.
  • In addition to "Show acknowledged, add check boxes for other options such as:
    • "Show unacknowledged",
    • "Show active",
    • "Show reset",
    • "Show uncleared",
    • "Show cleared",
    • "Show all"
    • ...and keep them check boxes allowing the user to select any combination.

In addition, stop marking the NetPerfMon Actions from "Alerts" as "Events".  It is not the Event that causes these to be logged but rather the Alerts.  When you want to see information about the "Alert" and you click the above "Show alerts", this is when these should appear.  They should not appear if "Show alerts" is not checked and "Show event messages" is checked.  With this filtering, you should only see when Orion first noticed the issue after a poll and when Orion saw the issue disappear after a poll.

One more thing...  When you have active alerts displayed in Message Center, the "Hostname" is displayed.  Why can't the same be display for anything else in Message Center related to a Node, Interface, Volume, etc.

These are not just niceties but rather provide us with the ability to see a complete history rather than just part of the story.

Please vote Up if you believe in the cause.

THANKS

Mike

  • I can agree with the idea here, but I think the message center (and everything under alerts & activities) needs a major overhaul/updates to support the current UX of later parts of NPM. It's clear these were taken from older modules and have not been updated since. It's not unlike how the manage groups page doesn't even have a search option because it was a component from like NPM 9 or earlier or so.
