Modify NetPath so we can right-click on a node and choose to SSH to it

As I see and learn new things about NPM 12's capabilities, I see a lot of goodness in NetPath.  But when I'm hovering over a switch or router and I have a question about its internal setup, it'd be nice to have some right-click options:

  • SSH to the device at the IP address shown
  • Open the device or Interface details in NPM
  • Choose to examine the running or startup config in NCM via a shortcut here
  • Other intuitive items?

I'm asking for no access requiring Write access via snmp-v3, please.  I prefer to keep things securely managed via scripted AAA TACAS only.

  • (Typo.  Should've said "It would be more convenient than it not working.)

  • It would be more convenient that it not working.  But I feel it would be most convenient to be able to access SSH directly from hovering over a node in NetPath or in NPM's list of nodes, and selecting SSH.

  • If SSH "just worked" from the COMMAND menu on the netpath inspector panel + from Node Details page, would that cover your need?

  • My goal is first to be able to reliably and conveniently and quickly open an SSH session from Netpath to any of the devices it monitors.

My first desired way to accomplish this is for the SSH option to be available by either right-clicking on a NetPath node or hovering over it, and selecting SSH to get a client like Putty to open up pointed at that node.

A second desired way it to hover over any node in the main NPM list, and then click on popup options that include SSH.

Yes, I have seen the options for telnet and http from NPM.  They don't do the trick because they're too many clicks into a particular device.  Worse, trying to get the telnet or https link to be changed point to SSH (using Putty or Secure Shell or other apps) is so complex that my users have given up on it.

  • Is the core of the request for a right click mean, or for these additional functions to be quickly available?  Have you seen the COMMANDS menu at the top of the inspector panel (the panel that opens on the right when you select a node)?
