Stacked poller information in polling engine details

Polling engine details in the settings menu should be able to display a stacked poller count when stacked pollers are being used.  This will help not only with user in figure out the potential element count a poller can handle, but it will cut down on time where element count is being discussed with support when a stacked poller is being utilized.

  • I did it myself once, but it was far enough back I hadn't remembered how to do it. It did work well, though.

  • If you are meaning how the stacking is actually done by your reference to finding good documentation on it, you need to run the bundle APE installer on a server that is either already an APE or main poller and it basically recognizes that you are trying to stack and creates a license entry on the server for you to enter in a new APE license on.

It has been a while since I worked in the stacked environment, but I believe that you only upgraded as if it were the main, or an APE depending on what the base install was.  The stacked server doesn't require an upgrade.  The stacked environments are working well for the clients that we have using them.

  • I'm almost suprised more people aren't voting for this... I haven't even stacked mine yet and I want it!

  • That would be easier as well if the installer can see there's an additional poller stacked for sure.  I hope that's the case it may increase my thinking of moving to stacked pollers.

  • Basically, you just upgrade as if it's not there? If I recall correctly. Checking with adatole and Dez to double check things.

Good long term question for both of the mentioned geeks: if you install APE on the same server (and thus stack), do you need to continually update APE? I couldn't even find good documentation on how people stack pollers, but maybe I searched the wrong terms into the success center.
