UX Requests

While building out a bunch of manual mappings to VMware servers for a customer I documented a couple of changes I would love to see in the Manual Server Volume Mapping UI.

1. When selecting Group By that selection should be sticky.  As it stands now when you go through a mapping and return to the screen it returns to the default of [Ungrouped] which makes an awful lot of extra clicks.

2.  VMware nodes that share the same VMFS location should only have to be mapped to a LUN on one host.  The LUN-to-datastore relationship will be the same across all of the hosts in the same cluster and storage array.

3.  The ability to change the default location from Array to LUN (or pool, etc.) in Select Storage Object

4.  When typing text in the search box in the Select Storage Object view, enter should start the search instead of having to click the search button.

5.  All views in Volume Mapping should dynamically resize to the length of the text and/or allow the columns to be changed (and remember those changes!)  I ended up having to bust out a second screen for my laptop so that I could keep the LUN-to-datastore documentation up on one screen and the manual server mapping up on the other.

6.  Move the next and finish buttons to the top of the screen so that you don't have to scroll to the bottom of the screen just to click them.

7.  Instead of being able to only view volumes by server > volume allow grouping and sorting by volume name.  This would be a quick workaround to issue 2 above as you could multi-select volumes that shared the same VMFS location and map them all to the same LUN independent of the host.

That's it for now.  I am sure there will be a few more suggestions later.
