Improved Performance for Custom Object Resource Charts

I have several node and interface charts for executive dashboards, most showing only the sum of the data. The time to load these charts is agonizingly slow even though I have plenty of NPM and SQL server horsepower. I've had to time-limit the initial graphs so people don't think that Orion has hung. This is probably due to inefficient SQL querying, but the effect is that "free" MRTG (which builds graphs in the background for snappy display) is significantly faster than "paid" Orion. Custom multi-object resource graph performance is in serious need of a speed boost.

  • I received a comment that the "multi-object resource graph" has been deprecated and that I should use the "Custom Chart" instead. Actually, I am using the Custom Chart and the Custom Object Resource to generate some simple graphs with multiple-objects that take several minutes to render. Using SolarWinds DPA, it appears that creating custom indexes would help performance, but that seems like a very risky thing to do. It would be better if SolarWinds could come up with some supported way to improve performance of these types of graphs.
