Duplicate nodes - Warning or detection

I often run Network Sonar Discovery on my network to make sure that we cover all devices in our multiple subnets and remote sites. Once this is done, I often realize that we end up with few devices that are duplicated in NPM. This is caused by some devices having multiple IPs (ie virtual interfaces, physical interfaces, loopbacks, etc...). To my understanding, there's a basic validation that is made on the primary IP (the one that is used to poll) and not on the secondary ones. That causes issues with alert rules, devices gets polled extra and our NPM inventory is not clean. For clarification, we have a single poller.

Please insert a validation in the device add session. Here's a few ideas:

  • Discovered IP should not belong to another node;
  • Caption should be unique;
  • DNS name should not be repeated;

This is a know issue that should be addressed ASAP
