Search function like WSUS currently has for searching patch names and descriptions

I'd like to submit that Patch Manager would greatly benefit from a search function being implemented much like WSUS currently has. I'd like to be able to find a few patches in the sea of patches on the server to not approve of and I'd like to do this inside patch manager instead of having to jump into the WSUS server to do something so simple.

  • That's an excellent work around there! But I do agree that a universal search function would be ideal. Thank you for the information!

  • Greetings Doug.

I agree, a universal search feature would be a great thing to have, not just for searching updates in the WSUS collection, but that feature could also be used to search a collection of Third-Party Updates in the Software Publishing node, or for an individual computer in a collection of dozens or hundreds of computers in a group.

One thing I will note, though, is that a similar capability does exist in the product today. From the update Title column of an Update View, you can invoke a "Contains" filter on the column, which will functionally give you a search result based on the content of that column. For example, here I've "searched" on "Internet Explorer 11":

The limitation, of course, is that it's not universal across the entire product; it's limited to a single node of the navigation tree.
