Add extra column of user ID, after workstations IP address

When dealing with many IP addresses. It is very difficult to remember which worker has which IP address. I am forced to check each IP address on the right column with the setup names on the left side. However if a column was created on the right side of the workstation IP addresses. Then the administrator could glance at users names instead of IP addresses and connect to the user much faster.

  • If you are not using Web Helpdesk it can be difficult to keep track of all the computers to users in your organization. In my opinion Web Helpdesk is the way to go. Before we had Web Helpdesk I created two scripts to help with this. One was run as a group policy at login that created a text file with the username as the file name and added the computer name to the file. this file can be stored on a file server share, all users need write access to. The second script is run from a support computer, this script allows you to select the text file for the user created by the login script. It will read the computer name from the text file and pass that info on to DMRC so you can connect. Pretty fast and easy.

  • We are in a similar situation. All of our workstations are named by the asset number. In AD, we have entered the assigned user's name in the computer description field for the workstation. We would love to have the ability to import this information from AD or simply be able to enter both a host name and comment/description in a second column in DameWare. This way we wouldn't have to look two places to find out which workstation the user is using when they call us.
