Network Atlas - Link Lines Threshold Breach

Hi

As it is possible to associate link lines between objects on a map with more than just Interface status information, it would be great if the link lines changed colour to reflect threshold breaches.

Currently only status will change the link line to red, however if I was to associate a link line with the Disk IOPS value and it breached into the warning threshold it would be great for this to be reflected in the link line colour change to Yellow and if into Critical to Red.

I will stop at that, before I ask for animated link lines to enable the creation of maps in the style of Spotlight...

thanks

Mark

  • It turns out that it was user error! I upgraded to 10.7 a while back but apparently never updated the Atlas client on my PC, so I've been using an outdated version that didn't show the new features. I logged into the Solarwinds server , pulled up Atlas on it, and I see all the utilization functions now. Good to go!

  • Hi Dobbs-

Thanks for the good news! I've been at version 7 for a while, so apparently the feature is a little buried since I haven't found it yet. I just discovered that there's a Network Atlas Administrator Guide, so hopefully that will guide me in the right direction. Have you used this feature or did you just find it in the update link that you pasted?

  • Hi Jeff

This is something that has been added in v10.7 of Orion, so if you havent already done so upgrade to get this feature

  • I just spent a couple hours trying to do this exact same thing before resorting to Thwack for a solution. The reason I didn't go here right away is because I assumed this feature was built into NPM for sure. Like keeshka said, all the functionality is already there; Solarwinds just needs to put the pieces together.

However, part of me wonders if this will ever be added to NPM since Solarwinds probably doesn't want to make Network Atlas TOO feature-rich and compete for their paid product - Network Topology Mapper.

Has anyone else figured out a way to make links turn different colors based on thresholds in Network Atlas?

    Thanks,

    Jeff

  • Excellent suggestion.  We use network atlas maps to display the overall network topology (and health) in near real time.  Having links between nodes change color to reflect activity would be a huge benefit.  The underlying functionality is already there with NPM... "Network" TAB --> "Overview", then select 'Nodes: Node Status' and 'Interfaces: Interface Traffic'.  What you get is a list of nodes with every interface icon displaying a different color depending on the traffic %.

If only Solarwinds can extent this functionality to Atlas maps where the interface links dynamically change color.  That would certainly be a WOW feature !

    Cheers,
