Group as Folder in Explorer

Hi

It would be better if the group in CatTools will appear as folders in Explorer, which you can open and minimize them.

This is useful when we set up a lot of devices

  • Alexey,

Does the ability to 'run an activity at group level' sound like the feature you were looking for too?

  • Ah OK, so the "All Devices" works as I first thought. Assigning an activity to a group would be perfect.  Most of my reports work on a group basis, so that would make the maintenance of CatTools hugely easier.

Would it be possible to assign more than one group?  It is less important, but I do have a sort of hierarchy because my groups represent comms rooms so I have reports per comms room, but I also have some reports for a site, so if I could select all the comms room groups for a site, then those reports would also automatically include all the right devices too.

  • I think we may be getting crossed wires, so I'll hopefully clarify below:

The new 'Select All Devices' checkbox feature added in v3.8.0 will override any individual, filtered or otherwise selection you have made in the devices list box below and simply associate ALL devices in the database with your activity.   Therefore if additional devices are added to CatTools later, then they will automatically be included to the activity.

The Filter and Select All buttons are ways to speed-up the selection of devices currently displayed in the Devices tab or the Activity setup.   The Filter can be used to display a specific type, group or using some other criteria, which the 'Select All' button can then be used to select all the returned results.

If you add new devices to CatTools and assign to an existing group, those devices are not automatically included.   You need to edit the activity to select/include these new devices.

The new feature request I was proposing was to be able to assign an Activity directly with a group rather than individual devices.  By associating activities with a group, you will then be able to add new devices to that group and them be automatically included in the activity.  Does that sound more like what you are after David?

    Steve

  • I haven't tested the new feature with a filter on,nut as I understand it the "select all" includes any new devices added later.  If you do that with a filter on, would it remember the filter so for example if I set a filter for all devices in group ABC on one report, selected all devices and after repeat this for reports on the groups DEF and GHI.  A month later I add a new device in group ABC, wouldthat be included in the first report automatically?

  • Thanks for the further explanation.  So we are talking about the 'Devices' tab on the 'Edit scheduled activity details' form.

You can actually select just a group of devices using a combination of the the 'Filter (F3)' button and then (once you have specified your filter) use the 'Select All' button which selects all the devices currently displayed in the list above.

I agree though that it is not as 'user friendly' as the option you suggested though David...  although it does provide greater functionality. emoticons_happy.png

I guess what you are looking for is the ability to run an activity based on a group (therefore if you add new devices to that group, they get automatically included in the activity)?  Does that sound right?
