We are continuously getting alerts from the ports of core/access switches. These are mainly user ports. What is the best practice in monitoring these types of ports.

Hi there, if the alerts are status-based (warning, critical), which is very common in situations like this, I'd also consider refining your status thresholds on the interfaces. If that's never been done, then the alerting engine is using the global defaults, which tend to be too generalized for today's networks. While you're at it, I suggest modifying the node statuses as well for the same reason.
